Kamala Harris Names Running Mate: Latest Election Update
Kamala Harris is set to announce her running mate today as she embarks on a tour across crucial U.S. battleground states.
This move is part of her strategy to harness the enthusiasm surrounding her presidential campaign into lasting support for her bid to win the White House.
Key Path to Victory
According to NDTV World, the road to the White House runs through key swing states.
Harris will launch her five-day campaign tour on Tuesday in Pennsylvania, the largest of these states, to gain momentum for her showdown with Republican Donald Trump on November 5.
Harris recently shared on X, “At this moment, we face a choice between two visions for our nation: one focused on the future and the other on the past… This campaign is about people coming together, fueled by love of country, to fight for the best of who we are.”
As the first female, Black, and South Asian vice president, Harris enters the Democratic national convention in Chicago in two weeks with a strong position within her party.
Her campaign, just two weeks old, has already broken fundraising records and captured significant public attention, effectively closing the polling gap that Trump had established before President Joe Biden withdrew from the race.
Announcement of Running Mate
Harris is expected to announce her vice-presidential pick before her Tuesday evening rally in Philadelphia.
Pennsylvania is a crucial battleground state, often seen as pivotal in the Electoral College system.
It forms part of the “blue wall” that helped Biden secure the presidency in 2020, along with Michigan and Wisconsin—states Harris plans to visit on Wednesday.
Among the potential candidates for the vice-presidential slot are Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and U.S. Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Focusing on Diversity
Later in the week, Harris will campaign in the more racially diverse states of Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, and North Carolina. She aims to solidify support among Black and Hispanic voters, demographics where Democratic support has been waning.
Just a month ago, Trump held a comfortable lead in swing state polls, buoyed by President Biden’s poor debate performance.
However, Trump’s campaign was disrupted on July 21 when Biden, citing age-related concerns and declining poll numbers, exited the race and endorsed Harris.
At 59, Harris presents a dynamic contrast to the 78-year-old Trump. Her campaign reports raising $310 million in July, more than double Trump’s fundraising efforts.
While Biden had previously emphasized civility and democracy, Harris has shifted focus to the future, making “freedom” a central theme of her campaign.
Her team has also adopted a more aggressive stance than Biden’s, challenging Trump for backing out of a September 10 debate and labeling him as a “weird” and convicted felon.
Although she has distanced herself from some of the progressive positions she held during her 2020 primary campaign, Harris has yet to give an extensive interview since entering the race.
Voters attending her rallies will be eager to hear more about her plans for the country’s future.

Only Nigerians with NIN Can Purchase ₦40,000/Bag Rice as FG Launches Food Sale
Only Nigerians with NIN Can Purchase ₦40,000/Bag Rice as FG Launches Food Sale
The Nigerian Federal Government has introduced a new initiative to reduce food prices by selling rice at a subsidized rate. However, this opportunity is exclusively available to Nigerians with National Identification Numbers (NIN).
Government Launches Rice Sale to Control Food Prices
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the commencement of a significant rice sale, aimed at stabilizing the food market. Only Nigerians with valid NINs are eligible to purchase this subsidized rice.
The sale involves 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice, priced at ₦40,000 per 50kg bag.
Purpose of the Rice Sale
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, emphasized that this move is designed to combat food price inflation and prevent racketeering.
Representing President Bola Tinubu, Kyari highlighted that the intervention will be strictly limited to “one bag per person,” ensuring equitable distribution.
Details of the Subsidized Rice Distribution
Kyari detailed that the rice is part of the federal government’s broader strategy to address the current food crisis. He urged citizens to support the initiative, noting that the sale aims to ease the burden of high food costs.
The government’s goal is to make a substantial impact by introducing this 30,000 metric tonnes of rice into the market.
Efforts to Mitigate Food Crisis
Kyari acknowledged the contributing factors to food price hikes, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and climate change.
The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to mitigate these challenges and ensure food security for all Nigerians.
Process for Purchasing Subsidized Rice
To purchase the rice, individuals must present their NIN and phone number at the point of sale. This process is designed to prevent fraud and ensure transparency.
The NIN will be logged into the system, generating a code and a Treasury receipt for the buyer.
Ensuring Fair Distribution
The government has implemented measures to guarantee that the rice reaches those in need. By restricting purchases to one bag per person and verifying identities, the initiative aims to avoid misuse and ensure that the benefits are widely distributed.
Conclusion and Future Expectations
The rice sale is expected to significantly reduce rice prices and benefit Nigerians across the country. The government encourages everyone to participate in this initiative, which is part of its broader commitment to enhancing food security.
